Mini Grasshopper Arena
Grasshopper Arena is one of my favourite FFA variants, so that's the inspiration behind this variant.
In GA, your king only has 3 legal squares, and the rest is about grasshoppers. Here, the kings have more mobility, but are still always in danger.
For me, 3 | 9 is a good tc because there's a fast-paced, materialistic opening/middlegame and a slow-paced, positional/tactical endgame, so the time stacks up, which lets you play a more precise endgame. But then again, I'm terrible at anything not rapid, so 2 | 5 might be better for a typical player.
Endgames are really long, although it's mostly cut down by Bare Piece and 4+. However, the endgames can still take up to 50 moves.
As for board layout, the wall design assists grasshoppers in swapping colours/ranks, giving them more mobility, as well as making sure players can't hide from checks.
While 1st move attacks do exist, they can easily be defended/blocked.
Torpedo was used because I couldn't get PawnBaseRank to work, so if this gets accepted, please try to make the pawnbaserank work (only 1 pawn can double-push).
